MY STORY - From Hurt to Healing: A Tale of Childhood Scars and Clinical Understanding

A personal journey from patient to therapist is a unique and challenging experience. As a patient, for over 30 years, I experienced mental health challenges that led me to seek therapy. Through therapy, I learned coping skills, gained insight into my thoughts and behaviors, and developed a better understanding of myself.

As I progressed in my mental health journey, I felt inspired to help others who are struggling with similar challenges. This led me to pursue a career in counseling.

Becoming a therapist can be a rewarding experience, but it also requires a significant amount of education and training. I needed to complete a bachelor’s (completed) and a graduate degree (in progress) in counseling, and obtain licensure in Kentucky. Additionally, l will need to engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with the latest research and best practices in the field.

As an upcoming therapist who has also been a patient, I have a unique perspective that can be helpful in working with clients. I am able to empathize with their struggles and offer insights based on my experiences.

Overall, a personal journey from patient to therapist has been a fulfilling and meaningful experience, but it required dedication and hard work to achieve my goals.
