Not a Revival Yet, but a Window

A new Pew report finds faith holding steady and the youngest adults showing up, and that is a call for the church to walk with them.

A new Pew Research Center report finds that religious practice in the U.S. has "remained stable" since 2020, pushing back on headlines of a revival. In a June 2026 survey, 34% of adults said they attended a religious service in the past month, and 45% attended or watched one online, the highest levels since Pew began asking. Young adults born from 2004 to 2008 report relatively high attendance, while those born from 2000 to 2003 are the least religious age group.

Pew also noted something sobering. This isn't the first time the youngest Americans have entered adulthood with high rates of faith, and in the past, it has tended to fade with time. Nobody knows yet whether this generation will follow that pattern or break it.

That's not a reason for discouragement. It's an invitation. Jesus told of seed that sprang up quickly on rocky ground and withered because it had no root. Young people walking through our church doors are a gift, and they need more than a welcome. They need someone to sit with them, pray with them, and open the Word with them, so that what's planted can take root and last.

A prayer for this week

Lord of the harvest, thank you for every young person seeking you right now. Let their faith grow deep roots and not wither when life gets hard. Make our churches places of real belonging, and make us faithful to pass on what you have done to the next generation. Draw back those who have drifted away, and let none of them feel unseen. Amen.

One thing to do: Reach out to one young adult in your church or community this week. Invite them for coffee or a meal, ask how you can pray for them, and keep showing up.

"One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts." (Psalm 145:4, ESV)
